Hi everyone,
Hope all is well and you’re having a good Easter.
Last time I talked about ballet flats. This was the first in a series of posts on the wardrobe items I reach for most of the time - in other words when it’s not super hot, cold or wet. My ‘go to’ pieces if you will. In the same vein I’m dedicating this issue to loafers.
Just like a ballet flat you can wear a loafer with anything - jeans, a tailored trouser, a dress, a skirt. And there are so many versions out there.
Some have a thick rubber sole which gives them an exaggerated feel -
As you’ll see here these are amazing when paired with the right pieces. To me though they give off a cold weather vibe. This of course is perfectly fine - it’s just that they don’t quite meet the trans seasonal brief.
Other loafers have a leather sole which lightens the look overall. As a result they are easy to wear day to day, year round. But the details are important.
Consider these two examples -
Both are beautiful. You’ll hopefully see though that those at the top have a deep upper - meaning that the top of the shoe extends all the way to the ankle. The ones below reveal a bit more foot by comparison.
This subtle feature can make a big difference when it comes to versatility. Generally speaking a more closed in loafer works well with trousers and jeans but is trickier to wear with a dress or skirt. Yet a loafer that shows more of your ankle looks good with all of these items.
Let me show you more examples of the kind of loafers I’m talking about. These from Aeyde fit the bill nicely. Available in an array of neutral tones -
Another great option can be found at Staud. 15% off when you sign up for emails!
These Gucci loafers are timeless -
So are these also at Gucci. Head to Dolci Firme for a similar version at a much lower price point.
So…I’ll leave it here for now. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. I would really love to hear from you.
Next time I’ll make the case for leather trousers as a ‘go to’ item. Thanks so much for reading. See you in two weeks!
