Hi everyone
It’s great to be back with you all! And an especially warm welcome to new subscribers. Thank you for being here and if you’d like you can also follow along via Instagram @jenniefromtheblog. You’ll find all previous issues there, with additional content to come.
I’ve just returned from having escaped Melbourne’s autumn/winter for five weeks. I packed relatively lightly - but should add that I can’t claim to have achieved ‘carry on only’ status. Full admiration to anyone that can do that on a long haul trip!
I’m pleased to say I wore just about everything in my suitcase but there were a few things I reached for over and over again. These items stood out because they seemed to fit the bill from breakfast to dinner to everything in between -
baggy tee shirt - non standard shape
cashmere wrap
wide leg trousers in silky fabric
shirt and shorts set
caftan
It seems to me that there are sartorial lessons in all of this. Not just for travel but for every day life too.
So over the next few weeks, I’m going to take a closer look at some of these pieces …
The baggy tee
Most of the time I wore tee shirts and tank tops. With shorts or jeans or cargo pants. Soft cotton or cotton blend ones worked really well, such as those by American Vintage (see here and here), James Perse (see here) and Assembly Label (see here).
By chance I also packed a couple of tees that have a slightly different ‘trapeze style’ silhouette and found them to be so versatile. Great with the aforementioned jeans and cargoes and especially good tucked into tailored shorts.
I found they had the ability to elevate my outfit that bit and make it feel as though I wasn’t just wearing jeans and a tee. Not that there would have been anything wrong with an effortless combo like that!
At the same time they were completely easy care - throw in the wash and no need to iron. Great when travelling or anytime.
Let me illustrate with a few examples -
This one from Bassike is so soft and yet manages to have a subtly exaggerated silhouette -
Some colours are currently on sale. They are large to size so you may want to take one size smaller than usual. For cooler weather there is also a long sleeve version.
Zara also has some good options such as this one -
I also really like this tee from the Frankie Shop - the shoulder pads give it understated definition. Hand rather than machine wash -
That’s it from me for now. Next time I’ll be talking about cashmere wraps so I’ll see you in two weeks! Till then.
x

Thanks for your tips . I love my Assembly tees. We were away for 3 weeks and I take carry on! It’s so liberating. Xx
Must have been great to travel so light. Amazing you can do that! Thanks so much for your comments xx
