Grab and go
Day to day outfits I don't have to think about
Hi everyone
Thanks so much for the survey responses from last time! If you missed it, I would love to hear from you. It’s real quick I promise -
Last time I talked about one of the topics that came up in your answers - namely the challenge of what to wear to a dressier event.
A similar issue arose in the context of day to day dressing. One reader wanted -
‘set outfits I can grab without thinking about it’
Another talked about -
‘a good capsule base’
Life is busy and time is precious so it stands to reason that we want to simplify getting dressed each day.
So, what fits the bill as an outfit we can ‘grab and go’ as it were?
It will be different for everyone depending on lifestyle, occupation, climate, personal taste and so on. Thinking about how you want to feel in your clothes is also a good starting point.
All of which means there’s no standard formula.
But here’s how I approach it.
On many a day you will find me in activewear. Involving very little in the way of sartorial decision making, it’s a no brainer.
The rest of the time, I wear the following almost without fail -
jeans + t shirt (or tank top and shirt) + blazer + loafers
Personally I love tailoring. So for me an outfit feels more complete when I’m wearing a blazer rather than something less structured such as a cardigan.
And I can’t really overstate the virtues of a great jean. Denim is easy and relaxed and the way it contrasts with the relative formality of a blazer is what does it for me.
Importantly, I feel comfortable, confident and pulled together when I combine my favourite items this way.
Here are two outfit examples currently on rotation -

It’s fair to say that my blazers and loafers do tend to fall into the realm of investment pieces.
But the look can definitely be achieved for less. So next time I’m going to focus on a more affordable selection of these key pieces.
Thanks for being here and reading. I’ll see you in two weeks! Till then.
x
Jennie
